International investment in Panama has increased greatly and looks as if it will develop further….
According to KnightsbridgeInvest.com, “Panama Key in French Companies Operations”, there are a number of corporations that have moved or planned to move to Panama. Corporations including L’Oreal, Sanofi-Aventis (Pharmaceuticals), and Total (petroleum), GDF Suez (power generation) have all relocated to Panama. French investment already contributes more than $600 million to the Panamanian economy, and that number is estimated to reach $1 billion by 2010.
In addition to the French, a consortium of companies from Dubai have traveled to Panama, looking for investment deals. The company officials visited the country to investigate the development, laws and logistics of relocation.
The Tourism Authority of Panama is promoting Panama to over 178,000 people at one of largest trade fairs in the world in Berlin. The Authority will be promoting Panamanian culture and conservation efforts. The Panama Tourism Sector is estimated to have contributed about 12% to the national Gross Domestic Product. The Authority currently has 13 projects that have been approved by the National Registry of Tourism that will contribute over $400 million to tourism.

Panama City, Panama has been named as one of ’29 Cities Where Men Would Most Like to Live’.
A new global list of 29 cities where men would most like to live was published by AskMen.com. Panama City, along with Buenos Aires and Santiago, were the leading cities in Central America. AskMen.com took the following criteria into consideration:

U.S.-Panama Ties to Remain Strong
The results of last week’s U.S. presidential election should not affect Panama in any significant capacity.
Last week, Panamanian Foreign Minister, Samuel Lewis Navarro, reported that “For Panama, the result will not make any difference to the continued strengthening of the special ties between both countries”. Neither candidate would be initiating policies that interfere with the historical relationship between Panama and the U.S.
Panama and the United States are completing an agreement called the U.S.-Panama Agreement (CPA). The agreement has been signed by both governments after three years of negotiations. The agreement calls for eliminating tariffs and other trade barriers for goods and services between the U.S. and Panama. The Panamanian National Assembly ratified the agreement on July 11, 2007 and is now waiting for ratification from U.S. Congress, which is expected to pass.
Panama has become home to many Americans, as well as other world citizens. Land prices, healthcare, and a strong dollar all contribute to a robust economy for those looking to move or retire in Panama. Casco Viejo Among the Development in Panama
Last week, a variety of publications and online resources, including the New York Times, reported about Casco Viejo - the new “it” place in Panama.
Casco Viejo, also known as Casco Antiguo and San Felipe Catedral, is one of the oldest Panamanian cities. Located on the peninsula that runs along the coast of Panama City, Casco Viejo is an old, oceanfront community filled with colonial homes, museums, and a booming nightlife. Casco Viejo is being defined as the “cultural cornerstone” of Panama, drawing comparisons to Miami and Havana.
UNESCO named Casco Viejo a World Heritage Site in 1998. The city was originally founded in 1673, but was destroyed by pirate attacks and disease.
Since rebuilt, many of Casco Viejo’s buildings are being converted to new and modern museums, boutiques, nightclubs and luxury apartments. The city is a combination of architectural styles, having Caribbean, French, Colonial and Art Deco influences.
The development and nightlife have not hindered the city’s safety, as the government has put special policing controls in place that monitor the city closely in order to protect both tourists and residents in the evening.

Copa Airlines to Expand Development in Panama
Yesterday, June 30, 2008, Copa Airlines announced its 42nd non-stop destination to Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The flight will begin August 21, 2008 and is the fourth city in Brazil with Copa Airlines service, joining Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Manaus.

The flights will be operated by the Boeing 737-700 Next Generation aircraft. The 124 person flight has 112 main cabin seats and 12 Business Class (Clase Ejecutiva).

Panama - Canal Development and Expansion
The Panama Canal Authority released details of last week’s meetings at the Panama Canal Miraflores Locks Visitors’ Center.
Last Wednesday, the AAPA – the American Association of Port Authorities Congress of Latin American Ports – met in Panama City. Attendees were briefed by Panama Canal Authority CEO, Alberto Aleman Zubieta, on the development and tremendous growth that is being experienced due to the Canal expansion.
“It is clear that Panama is emerging as the transportation and logistics hub of the Americas,” said Alemán Zubieta. “Large-scale infrastructural improvements like the Canal expansion and the Pan-American highway, coupled with Panama’s strategic location and proximity to other regional port development projects, make Panama an ideal hub for international commerce.”
