One of our American escapees to Panama is Matt Landau, a 25-year old from Princeton, New Jersey that is heir to the Landau retail store. Matt has made his home in Panama since graduating from college and has made his career as a writer and editor of The Panama Report, among other real estate ventures here in Panama.
Landau, like many of our Americans in Panama, has embraced the culture and the “largely untapped” opportunities in real estate, finance, and creative arts.
News & World Report profiled Matt in July 2008, while addressing the flood of more than 3 million Americans that have moved to Panama.
The article highlighted some of the benefits in moving to Panama, including:
1) Easy transition. Use of the dollar and many English-speaking people make moving to Panama fairly simple.
2) Great weather and great beaches. Panama is an ecological wonder.
3) Reliable infrastructure and progressive legal system. Good for entrepreneurs, creatives, and retirees. Flexible banking, visas, and housing.
4) An inexpensive and improved quality of life.
The article compares the surge of people moving to Panama to the rush to the Old West – except this time with Skype and the Internet to keep contact with friends, relatives, and ‘the old homeland’.
